We always quote hadeeth from Imam asws, and then we do not go ahead, the reason is that whatever Aimmah said, it was something they got from holy Prophet asws

We find in al Kafi, vol 1, page 58,hadeeth 21; and This hadeeth has been included by Mohib ud Deen alMosvi al Hilli in his “al Motabar min Ahadeeth al Kafi”. Here is also another link for this book

Ali from Muhammad bin Isa from Yunus from Qutayba : A man Asked Abi Abdillah (a.s) on a matter and he (a.s) replied to him about it, so the man said what is your view if the matter was so and so? so he (a.s) said whatever my answer includes is from the messenger of Allah (s.a.w.w) it is not from us giving our views on matters (independently) or asking for a personal view on a matter.

There is a complete chapter in Basair-ud-Darajat,part 6

Chapter regarding that with the Imams are the roots (usool) of knowledge of what they inherited of it from the Prophet They do not say by their view (i.e. opinion)

Now, let me share some of the Authentic Chains and ahadeeth from it

2 – Ya`qub b. Yazid narrated to us from Muhammad b. Abi `Umayr from `Amr b. Udhayna from al-Fudayl b. Yasar from Abu Ja`far (عليه السلام) that he said: Were we to have narrated to you by our view, we would have been astray as was astray the one who was before us. Rather, we narrate to you by a clear proof from our Lord, He elucidated it to His Prophet, so he elucidated it to us.

Also, we find

3 – `Abdullah b. `Amir from `Abdullah b. Muhammad al-Hajjal from Dawud b. Abi Yazid al-Ahwal from Abu `Abdillah (عليه السلام) . He said: I heard him saying: Verily we, had we given fatwa to the people by our view and our desire, we would be of the destroyed. Rather, it is traditions (or, remnants, athar) * from the Messenger of Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله), a root of knowledge we inherit, one great (or, old) from one great from one great. We store it as the people store their gold and their silver.Rather, we give fatwa to them by traditions from the Messenger of Allah and roots of knowledge

Similarly, we find

6 – Ahmad b. Muhammad narrated to us from al-Hasan b. Mahbub from Abu Hamza ath-Thumali from Jabir. Abu Ja`far (عليه السلام) said: O Jabir, by Allah, had we been narrating (?) to the people or narrated to them by our view we would be of the destroyed. Rather, we narrate to them by the traditions that are with us from the Messenger of Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله), one great inheriting it from one great. We store it as those ones store their gold and their silver.

And in chapter 15 of the said book, we find

1 – Ahmad b. Muhammad narrated to us from al-Barqi from Isma`il b. Mihran from Sayf b. `Umayra from Abu ‘l-Ma`za from Abu ‘l-Hasan (عليه السلام) . He said: I said to him: Everything you say is in the book of Allah and his Sunna, or do you say regarding it by your view? He said: Rather, everything we say is in the Book of Allah and the Sunna of His Prophet.

Also

2 – Ahmad b. Muhammad narrated to us from al-Barqi from Safwan from Sa`id al-A`raj. He said: I said to Abu `Abdillah (عليه السلام) that of those amongst us who apply themselves to the study of fiqh are those who say that there comes to us what we do not know of it in the Book of Allah nor in the Sunna (so) we say regarding it by our view. So Abu `Abdillah (عليه السلام) said: They have lied. There is nothing but that it has come in the Book and come in it the Sunna.

And then we have

4 – As-Sindi narrated to us from Safwan b. Yahya from Muhammad b. Hakim from Abu ‘l-Hasan (عليه السلام) . He said: I said to him: We apply ourselves to the study of fiqh in the religion and we narrate (i.e. the hadiths). And sometimes a man comes upon us for whom something small has distressed him for which there is nothing with us regarding it by its selfsame (i.e. no hadith about that exact thing which is the issue at hand), but with us is what is similar to its like, do we give him a fatwa by what is similar to it? He said: No, and what do you have to do with qiyas in that. Destroyed has been the one destroyed by qiyas. He said: I said: May I be your sacrifice, did the Messenger of Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله) come by what suffices them? He said: The Messenger of Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله) came by they asked of him in his time and by what suffices for whoso is after him until the day of the resurrection. He said: I said: Is anything of it lost? He said: No. It is with its people.
