this is the second post in this regard

and here we see

from quran

40.    قَالَ الَّذِي عِنْدَهُ عِلْمٌ مِنَ الْكِتَابِ أَنَا آتِيكَ بِهِ قَبْلَ أَنْ يَرْتَدَّ إِلَيْكَ طَرْفُكَ ۚ فَلَمَّا رَآهُ مُسْتَقِرًّا عِنْدَهُ قَالَ هَٰذَا مِنْ فَضْلِ رَبِّي لِيَبْلُوَنِي أَأَشْكُرُ أَمْ أَكْفُرُ ۖ وَمَنْ شَكَرَ فَإِنَّمَا يَشْكُرُ لِنَفْسِهِ ۖ وَمَنْ كَفَرَ فَإِنَّ رَبِّي غَنِيٌّ كَرِيمٌ

One who had the knowledge from the Book said: I will bring it to you in the twinkling of an eye. Then when he saw it settled beside him, he said: This is of the grace of my Lord that He may try me whether I am grateful or ungrateful; and whoever is grateful, he is grateful only for his own soul, and whoever is ungrateful, then surely my Lord is Self-sufficient, Honored.

now, here we see that a quality has been explained for the one who brought the throne

syed hasan hujjat koh karmi says

“in this verse, bringing the throne and knowledge of the book are made compulsory, and its explanation is that it is a well accepted rule of all languages including arabic, that if a characteristic is used instead of character (or name), and then we attribute some act to that, then this is called

تعليق الحكم بالوصف مشعر بالعلية

that is, when order is placed on characteristic rather than on person, it means that it is the characteristic which is the reason for that order; like if it is said respect the scholar or mechanic made up the car or doctor treated the patient; so it means that it is these characteristics which are the cause of result; so who will have the characteristic, he will have this order/quality; and this verse is like that”

[wilayat-e-imam aur ilm-e-ghaib, page 46]

let me add one thing

this verse is telling us that the companion of hazrat sulaiman asws had

عِلْمٌ مِنَ الْكِتَابِ

that is, knowledge of the book was not complete, rather it was just a part of it

but on the other hand, we see in quran

in surat raad

وَيَقُولُ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا لَسْتَ مُرْسَلًا ۚ قُلْ كَفَىٰ بِاللَّهِ شَهِيدًا بَيْنِي وَبَيْنَكُمْ وَمَنْ عِنْدَهُ عِلْمُ الْكِتَابِ

And those who disbelieve say: You are not a messenger. Say: Allah is sufficient as a witness between me and you and whoever has knowledge of the Book.

now, here we see that the one who is the witness, he has knowledge of the book; not part of it

and we see some authentic narrations about this issue, let us see those

from al kafi:-

6 – علي بن إبراهيم، عن أبيه، ومحمد بن يحيى، عن محمد بن الحسن، عمن ذكره جمعيا عن ابن أبي عمير، عن أبن اذينة، عن بريد بن معاوية قال: قلت لابي جعفر (عليه السلام): ” قل كفى بالله شهيدا بيني وبينكم ومن عنده علم الكتاب (6) “؟ قال: إيانا عنى، وعلي أولنا وأفضلنا وخيرنا بعد النبي (صلى الله عليه وآله)

narrator asked imam asws regarding the verse “and say that enough is for your witness allah and the one who has knowledge of book; imam abu jafar asws said it is ali asws, and ali is the first one and great one and better one after holy prophet asws

allama majlisi says:- hasan like sahih [ miraat-ul-uqool, vol 3, page 34]

From amali sheikh sudooq:-

892/3 ـ حدثنا محمد بن موسى بن المتوكل (رضي اللّه عنه ), قال : حدثنا محمدبن يحيى العطار (رحمه اللّه ), قال : حدثنا احمد بن محمد بن عيسى , عن القاسم بن يحيى , عن جده الحسن بن راشد, عـن عـمرو بن مغلس  , عن خلف , عن عطية العوفي , عن ابي سعيد الخدري , قال : سالت رسـول اللّه (صـلـى اللّه عـلـيـه وآلـه ) عـن قـول اللّه جـل ثـنـاؤه : (قـال الذى عنده علم من الكتاب ) قال : ذاك وصي اخي سليمان بن داود.

فـقـلـت لـه : يـا رسول اللّه , فقول اللّه عز وجل : (قل كفى باللّه شهيدا بينى وبينكم ومن عنده علم الكتاب ) , قال : ذاك اخي علي بن ابي طالب

abu saeed says that i asked holy prophet asws regarding the saying “said the one who had some knowledge from the book”; so prophet replied this was wasi of brother sulaiman bin daood; i asked regarding the verse ” (قل كفى باللّه شهيدا بينى وبينكم ومن عنده علم الكتاب )  he said:- it is my brother ali ibn abi talib asws

syed hasan hujjat koh kamri says sanad is authentic
