i ll sharing few narrations in this regard where we find that holy prophet asws ordered his sahaba not to write anything from him except for quran

let us see these narrations

we find in musnad ahmad

Abu saeed khidri said that holy prophet asws said that do not write from myside anything other than quran, and whosoever has written anything other than that, he should erase it

[musnad ahmad, urdu version, vol 5, page 38]

Molvi zafar says sahih as per muslim

Sheikh hamza says sahih sanad [10/41]

Sheikh shoaib says sahih on condition of sheikhain[17/149/11085]

there is another narration on the same page, with almost same sanad except for sheikh of ahmad bin hanbal, here ahmad narrated it from shoaib bin harab, and not ismail

and yet another narration, where he took the narration from yazeed, and he took it from hamam [musnad ahmad, urdu version, 5/65]

let us see another narration, it is very similar to the one mentioned before from abu saeed, there is, however, an addition to it

let us see this narration from musnad ahmad

Abu saeed khidri said that holy prophet asws said that do not write from myside anything other than quran, and whosoever has written anything other than that, he should erase it, and he said that you can narrate ahadeeth from myside and who attributes to me a lie, he should make a place in hell

[musnad ahmad, urdu version, vol 5, page 120]

Sheikh hamza says sahih sanad [10/124]

Sheikh shoaib says sahih sanad, all narrators are thiqa and that of sheikhain except abi ubaida [17/ 443/11344]

so, even abu ubaida is thiqa, though not a narrator of sheikhain

let us see another narration similar to the one mentioned above

we find in musnad ahmad, urdu version, on 5/171; sheikh shoaib again says sahih sanad on condition of sheikhain [18/94/11536]

Abu saeed khidri says that holy prophet said that do not write form me except from quran, and anyone who has written other than this, he should erase it. And he said that there is no problem in narrating form bani Israel, and you can narrate my ahadeeth, but do not attribute lies to me, who will do this, he should make his place in hell

let us see another narration in this regard, where we clearly find that holy prophet forbade to write ahadeeth
he just gave permission to narrate them

again, it is from musnad ahmad

“ abu huraira narrates that once we people were sitting, and writing what we had heard from holy prophet asws. At that time, he came to us and asked us: what are you people writing? We seaid: what we have heard from you. Holy prophet said: another book in the presence of book of allah? Keep book of pure. So we collected all that we wrote from him on a height, and put fire to that. Then we asked him: can we narrate your ahadeeth? He said: yes, there is no problem in that, but whosoever will falsely attribute to me, he should make his place in hell. Then we asked him: can we narrate incidents of bani Israel? He said: yes, there is no problem in that, because what you will narrate, there will be things more astonishing than that

[musnad ahmad, urdu version, vol 5, page 39]

Sheikh hamza says hasan sanad [10/43]

Sheikh shoaib terms it hadeeth sahih with weakness in this chain [17/157/11092]

so, this narration clears any doubt in regards to writing of ahadeeth
keep in mind that sheikh shoaib has termed it sahih hadeeth, which gives it more strength

CONCLUSION

so, we have seen sahih ahadeeth where holy prophet asws clearly mentioned that his ahadeeth/narrations can be narrated only, and not written
and we see that sahaba put fire to the narrations they had written after hearing to this hadeeth. so why did sunnis write ahadeeth books later on?
