Let us see an authentic narration first

And in this regard, we see Sahih Ibn Haban

[Al Ihsaan ba Taqreeb Sahih Ibn Haban, 15/554]

Abu Saeed narrates that Holy Prophet asws said: “May Allah be Merciful to ‘Ammar. He will be killed by Rebel party. He will be inviting them (i.e. his murderers, the rebellious group) to Paradise and they will invite him to Hell-fire.”

Sheikh Shoaib ul Arnawut says about authenticity

Chain is Correct on terms of Bukhari

There is another narration in Sahih Ibn Haban as well, and it is very much similar to a narration of Sahih Bukhari which we will mention later

[Al Ihsaan ba Taqreeb Sahih Ibn Haban, 15/555]

Sheikh Shoaib ul Arnawut says about authenticity

Chain is Correct on terms of Sahih

Having seen this narration, we turn our attention to a narration which comes in Present day copy of Sahih Bukhari

Volume 1, Book 8, Number 438 :

Narrated by ‘Ikrima

Ibn ‘Abbas said to me and to his son ‘Ali, “Go to Abu Sa’id and listen to what he narrates.” So we went and found him in a garden looking after it. He picked up his Rida’, wore it and sat down and started narrating till the topic of the construction of the mosque reached. He said, “We were carrying one adobe at a time while ‘Ammar was carrying two. The Prophet saw him and started removing the dust from his body and said, “May Allah be Merciful to ‘Ammar. He will be inviting them (i.e. his murderers, the rebellious group) to Paradise and they will invite him to Hell-fire.” ‘Ammar said, “I seek refuge with Allah from affliction.”

Now, the most important part in this narration is

“May Allah be Merciful to ‘Ammar. He will be killed by rebel party. He will be inviting them (i.e. his murderers, the rebellious group) to Paradise and they will invite him to Hell-fire.”

It is this part which puts a huge question mark on Mawia and his party. And we have seen that it is present from Abu Saeed in authentic chains in Sahih Ibn Haban. As regards to Sahih Bukhari, it had different copies or versions like that of Saghani and Farbari; I am not concerned with which copy had it and which copy did not have it {keep in mind it was missing in some copies of Bukhari as is clear from the discussion on this part in Fath ul Bari}

What I am concerned with is that You people must have seen Nawasib saying it time and again that Bukhari wont temper narrations, it is rather the narrators who would do so.

Let us see what Ibn Hajar says

And the words of Hadeeth ” ويح عمار تقتله الفئة الباغية يدعوهم ” ; It must be known that this extra part is not mentioned by Hameedi in Al Jama (Bain us Sahihain) and He said: Bukhari did not mention it originally, and same was said by Abu Masood. Hameedi said: May be Bukhari did not get this extra part or he removed it intentionally. He said: and it has been narrated by Ismaili and Barqani in this hadeeth. I (Ibn Hajar) say : What is apparent is that bukhari removed it intentionally and there is a fine point in it, and that is the acceptance of Abu Saeed that he did not hear it from Holy Prophet asws.

Then Ibn Hajar gives the example from narrations where Abu Saeed accepted that he had not heard it directly from Prophet asws, rather heard it from Sahabi. And in regards to that, Ibn Hajar gave example of a narration from Bazaar where he had said this, and Ibn hajar termed that narration Sahih on terms of Muslim. And then Ibn Hajar mentions Muslim and Nisai where Abu Saeed had named Abu Qatada as the one from whom he had heard it from. And after that, Ibn Hajar says

So Bukhari cut this narration to the amount which was heard by Abu Saeed from Holy Prophet asws, and not the rest. and this is a proof upon his great intellect and awareness of principles (illal) of hadeeth

Here is the online link for Fath ul Bari

Let us see the conclusions from this discussion

1- Ibn Hajar accepted that Bukhari intentionally removed part of hadeeth, or in other words, tempered with narration

2- He defended Bukhari’s intellect for this saying that he did so because Abu Saeed had not heard it from Prophet asws

So the topic which I made is clear

But the question which comes to my mind is that

Is it not the rule mentioned by Dhabi who said that

Sahaba have done a lot of Tadless, but there is not problem with that since they would do Tadless from some one greater than them, and all of Sahaba were Just/adil

[Sair A’laam Nabala, Shams ud Deen Dhabi, vol 2, page 608, Research by Sheikh Shoaib ul Arnawut, Printed by Maususa tur Risala]

And Ibn Hajar had himself mentioned

If this intellectual rule of Bukhari is to be praised, wont that be good to remove all those narrations of Abu Huraira in Sahihain which he spoke while he was not even there

Anyways, this is upon the people of Ahlusunnah to decide. None of my business.

I had made a topic that Ibn Hajar accepted that Bukhari had changed a narration, and that I have given.

Keep me in prayers
