It is always very difficult for Nawasib to digest glories of Imam Ali asws
they can go to any extent to counter those narrations which speak of glories of Imam Ali asws

One of the glories of Imam Ali asws is, that He was compared to Haroon asws.
And Holy Prophet asws said that You are to me like Haroon was to Moses

Uthman ul Khamees attempted to counter this narration, by using a narration from Musnad Ahmad (1/383) in which Abu Bakar was compared to Ibrahim asws and Esa asws; where as Umar was compared to Nooh asws and Moses asws

As regards to the comparison by Holy Prophet asws of Imam Ali asws to Haroon, We say that He asws compared Abu Bakar and Umar to those who were greater to Haroon in battle of Badr, when prisoners were caught and Holy Prophet asws seeked opinion, and Abu bakar was of the opinion to forgive them as they were from the same nation; and Umar said to kill them. Upon this, Prophet asws said that Abu Bakar is like Ibrahim like is said in verse ” فَمَنْ تَبِعَنِي فَإِنَّهُ مِنِّي وَمَنْ عَصَانِي فَإِنَّكَ غَفُورٌ رَحِيمٌ ” ; and like Esa asws when he said ” إِنْ تُعَذِّبْهُمْ فَإِنَّهُمْ عِبَادُكَ وَإِنْ تَغْفِرْ لَهُمْ فَإِنَّكَ أَنْتَ الْعَزِيزُ الْحَكِيمُ “. Then he turned to Umar and said: O Omar! You are like Nooh when he said ” رَبِّ لا تَذَرْ عَلَى الأَرْضِ مِنَ الْكَافِرِينَ دَيَّاراً “; and like Moses when He said ” رَبَّنَا اطْمِسْ عَلَى أَمْوَالِهِمْ وَاشْدُدْ عَلَى قُلُوبِهِمْ فَلا يُؤْمِنُوا حَتَّى يَرَوُا الْعَذَابَ الأَلِيمَ

[Huqba min Tareekh, page 208, printed Dar ul Eman, Iskandariya]

Now, let us see what is the status of this narration

This narration comes with the chain

Here we see Abu Ubaida Aamir bin Abdullah bin Masood is narrating from His father Abdullah bin Masood

As regards to Chain

Ibn Hajar said in his Tehzeeb ut Tehzeeb

1- TIRMIDHI

Tirmidhi said that I do not know his name, and he did not hear anything from his father

2- IBN HIBBAN

Ibn Hibban mentioned him in Thiqaat, and said that He did not hear anything form his father

3- IBN ABI HATIM

Ibn Abi Hatim said in his book Al Maraseel that I asked my father if Abu Ubaida heard aything from his father. He said no

As regards to opinion of Scholars

1- Sheikh Ahmad Shakir termed the chain Daif [Musnad Ahmad with Takhreej of sheikh Ahmad Shakir, 3/521, narration 3632

2- Sheikh Shoaib ul Arnawut termed it Daif due to Broken chain

3- Sheikh Albany included this narration in Daif Tirmidhi, page 164, narration 1714

So, we see that Uthman ul Khamees used a Daif narration to counter a Sahih Narration

But that is not the worst part

Worst part comes when Shekh un Nasibeen Ibn Taimiyya tried to counter it. He said

And saying of the one who said that He is at the status of so and so or he is like so and so…..this is Tashbeeh/comparision of one thing to other, and it is proof in regards to the context use, and it does not demand equality in all aspects. Do you not see what is proven in Sahiheen (that is, Sahih Bukhari and Sahih Muslim) regarding Saying of Prophet asws when he seeked opinion of Abu Bakar……..

[Minhaj us Sunnah, Ibn Taimiyya, 7/330]

Will Nawasib show us where is this narration mentioned in Sahih Bukhari and Sahih Muslim?
