Dhabi spoke about Imam Muslim in 12th vol of his Sair Alaam Nabala, and he said a few things worth mentioning

قال سعيد البرذعي : شهدت أبا زرعة ذكر ” صحيح ” مسلم ، وأن الفضل الصائغ ألف على مثاله ، فقال : هؤلاء أرادوا التقدم قبل أوانه ، فعملوا شيئا يتسوقون به . وأتاه يوما رجل بكتاب مسلم ، فجعل ينظر فيه ، فإذا حديث لأسباط بن نصر ، فقال : ما أبعد هذا من الصحيح . ثم رأى قطن بن نسير ، فقال لي : وهذا أطم . ثم نظر ، فقال : ويروي عن أحمد بن عيسى ، وأشار إلى لسانه ، كأنه يقول الكذب . ثم قال : يحدث عن أمثال هؤلاء ، ويترك ابن عجلان ، ونظراءه ، ويطرق لأهل البدع علينا ، فيقولوا : ليس حديثهم من الصحيح ؟

“Barzai’I says that once a man brought Sahih Muslim to Abu Zara’a. When He looked at it, he saw narration of Isbaat bin Nasr, He said: How far is this book from Sahih. Then he saw narration of Qatn bin Naseer, He said to me: This is even worst. Then he saw Ahmad bin Esa and said: He takes narrations from Ahmad bin Esa. And then he pointed to his tongue to show that He (Ahmad bin Esa) was liar. He then said: Muslim narrates from people like him and leaves out Ibn Ajlan, and this makes people of Bidaat point fingers at us, and they say: Is it not that this hadeeth is in Sahih?”

Dhabi further writes on page 571

وقد قدم مسلم بعد إلى الري ، فاجتمع بابن وارة ، فبلغني أنه عاتبه على ” الصحيح ” ، وجفاه ، وقال له نحوا من قول أبي زرعة

“ then Muslim stepped in Rai, and met Ibn Warah, and when He got this book, he teased him very much. And he said what was said by Abu Zara’a.”

Dhabi further says, that is very important, we find


وقال مكي بن عبدان : وافى داود بن علي الأصبهاني نيسابور أيام إسحاق بن راهويه ، فعقدوا له مجلس النظر ، وحضر مجلسه يحيى بن الذهليومسلم بن الحجاج ، فجرت مسألة تكلم فيها يحيى ، فزبره داود . [ ص: 572 ]

قال : اسكت يا صبي ، ولم ينصره مسلم . فرجع إلى أبيه ، وشكا إليه داود . فقال أبوه : ومن كان ثم ؟ قال : مسلم ، ولم ينصرني . قال : قد رجعت عن كل ما حدثته به . فبلغ ذلك مسلما ، فجمع ما كتب عنه في زنبيل ، وبعث به إليه ، وقال : لا أروي عنك أبدا .

“Makki bin Abdan says that Daood bin Ali Isbahani came in era of Ishaq bin Rahwia, and a gathering was arranged. Yahya bin Zahli and Muslim bin Hajjaj came to that gathering. An issue was discussed and Yahya spoke about it but Daood stopped him and told him to shut up. Muslim did not help Yahya. Yahya went back to his father and complained about Daood. His father asked: who else was there? He said Muslim but he did not help me. He said: Ok, I will take back all I have narrated from him. When this reached Muslim, he got a bag, and put all narrations of his father in it, and sent it to him and said: I wont take narrations from him ever”

Now, please keep in mind that Yahya bin Mohammad Az Zuhli mentioned in this narration, is Thiqa. Ibn Hajar said for him in Taqreeb ut Tehzeeb

and His father, Mohammad bin Yahya Zuhli, who was rejected by Muslim after the incident, and He said he wont take narrations from him, He was also Thiqa. Dhabi said about him in Sair Aalaam Nabala

محمد بن يحيى بن عبد الله بن خالد بن فارس بن ذؤيب , الإمام العلامة الحافظ البارع , شيخ الإسلام , وعالم أهل المشرق , وإمام أهل الحديثبخراسان أبو عبد الله الذهلي مولاهم , النيسابوري .

Others also spoke of him high


قال ابن أبي حاتم : كتب أبي عن محمد بن يحيى بالري , وهو ثقة صدوق , إمام من أئمة المسلمين , وثقه أبي , وسمعته يقول : هو إمام أهل زمانه . 

Ibn Abi Hatim said that my father wrote of him that he is Thiqaa Sudooq, Imam in Imams of Muslims…….


وقال النسائي : ثقة مأمون . 

Nisai said he is thiqa and Protective

وقال ابن أبي داود : حدثنا محمد بن يحيى , وكان أمير المؤمنين في الحديث .

Ibn Abi Daood said He is Amir ul Momineen in Hadeeth

and there is an incident which is mentioned in lifehistory of both, Muslim and Mohammad bin Yahya, that Abu Zara said

قال أبو قريش الحافظ : كنا عند أبي زرعة الرازي ، فجاء مسلم بن الحجاج ، فسلم عليه ، وجلس ساعة ، وتذاكرا . فلما ذهب قلتلأبي زرعة : هذا جمع أربعة آلاف حديث في ” الصحيح ” ! فقال : ولم ترك الباقي ؟ ليس لهذا عقل ، لو دارى محمد بن يحيى لصار رجلا .

Abu Quraish Hafiz said that We were with Abu Zar’a Razi when Muslim came there and greeted. He sat there for an hour and then when he left, I told Abu Zar’a that he is the one who collected 4000 Ahadeeth in his Sahih. He said: And He left others? He has no intellect, If he had it, he would have gone for Mohammad bin Yahya (zuhli) If he (Muslim) were a man

Even Dhabi said in life history of Mohammad bin Yahya

وأكثر عنه مسلم , ثم فسد ما بينهما , فامتنع من الرواية عنه , فما ضره ذلك عند الله

Muslim narrated from him a lot, then relations spoiled between them, and Muslim stopped taking narrations from him, but this wont effect him near Allah

Million dollar question is: Is this how Sunni Ilm ur Rijal works????

Is this how their grand scholars reject people or their narrations????

And Muslim is no ordinarly scholar………..His book is Number 2 in their list of Books of Hadeeth.
