Hafiz Abu Bakar bin Abi Dunia writes in his book, Al Manamat

حدثني محمد بن إدريس، نا عبد الله بن أَبي بكر بن الفضل العتكي، نا جرير بن حازم أَنه رأى النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم في المنام مسندا إلى جذع زيد بْن علي وهو يقول هكذا تفعلون بولدي

Jarir bin Hazim said that I saw Holy Prophet (asws) in my dream in a state that He was standing while resting his back on Date’s tree where dead body of Zaid bin Ali was hanged, And He (asws) said in state of grief that This is how You people treat my progeny


Analysis of Chain

1- Author of the book

Ibn Abi Duniya is a famous scholar. His name was Abdullah, and his Kuniyyat was Abu Bakar. His books are famous in circles of scholars. Hafiz Abu Hatim Razi was a scholar of his era, and termed his Truthful (Sudooq), He even took narrations from him. Ibn Abi Hatim, son of Abu Hatim Razi also took narrations from him. Dhabi mentioned authentication by Abu Hatim Razi, and he wrote like this

عبد اللّه بن محمد بن عبيد بن سفيان بن قيس، الحافظ أبو بكر ابن أبي الدنيا القرشي مولى بني أُمية البغدادي، صاحب التصانيف المشهورة ۔ قال ابن أبي حاتم: كتبت عنه مع أبي، وقال أبي: هو صدوق.

Zarkali also said that he is Scholar of Hadeeth (Hafiz ul Hadeeth), and mentioned that his book are many famous books. And he wrote like this

عبد الله بن محمد بن عبيد بن سفيان، ابن أبي الدنيا القرشي الأموي، مولاهم، البغدادي، أبو بكر: حافظ للحديث، مكثر من التصنيف ۔

2- Mohammad bin Idrees

He is the first narrator in this chain. His Kuniyyat was Abu Hatim Razi. He was counted as a Hafiz and Scholar of Hadeeth, and this in itself proves his status. He is counted as leader (Imam) in field of Jarh-o-Tadeel (science of terming someone weak or trustworthy). Let us see what scholars said

Dhabi said that He is Hafiz and Abu Daood and Nisai took narrations from him. Musa bin Ishaq Ansari said that I had never see anyone more Hafiz than Him. Dhabi used the following words.

محمد بن إدريس أبو حاتم الرازي الحافظ سمع الانصاري وعبيد الله بن موسى وعنه أبو داود والنسائي وولده عبد الرحمن بن أبي حاتم والمحاملي قال موسى بن إسحاق الانصاري ما رأيت أحفظ منه ۔

Hafiz Ibn Hajar said that He is one of the Huffaz of Hadeeth, and belonged to 11th category.

محمد ابن إدريس ابن المنذر الحنظلي أبو حاتم الرازي أحد الحفاط من الحادية عشرة مات سنة سبع وسبعين ۔

3- Abdullah bin Abi Bakar bin Fadal al A’tki

He is the second narrator. His name is Sukn bin Fadal. Hafiz Mizzi mentioned authentication from Abu Hatim Razi, who said that He is truthful (Sudooq) and Pious (Salih). Scholars from previous era, like Ibn Hibban included him in his book, Al Thiqaat, (The trustworthy ones). Hafiz Mizzi wrote it like this

عبد اللّه بن أَبي بكر، واسمه السكن بن الفضل بن المؤتمن العتكي الأزدي أَبو عبد الرحمن البصرِي. قال أَبو حاتم : صدوق صالح. وذكره ابن حبان في كتاب الثقات ۔

Hafiz Ibn Hajar said that He is truthful (sudooq), and counted him in 9th category.

عبد الله ابن أبي بكر السكن ابن الفضل ابن المؤتمن العتكي الأزدي أبو عبد الرحمن البصري صدوق من التاسعة مات سنة أربع وعشرين بخ

These statements showed his Truthfulness. Dhabi termed him Trustworthy, and at the same time, he mentioned that he took narrations from Jarir bin Hazim. So he used these words

عبد الله بن أَبي بكر السكنِ بن الفضل العتكي هو الثقة، المحدث، أبو عبد الرحمن عبد الله بن السكنِ بن الفضل بن المؤتمن الأزدي، البصرِي.حدث عن: شعبة، وجرِير بن حازم، وهمام بن يحيى، والأسود بن شيبان، وعدة.

4- Jarir bin Hazim

He is the last narrator, and counted in Tabaeen since it is proven that He took narrations from Sahaba. He is one of the narrators of Sheikhain. Bukhari and Muslim took narrations from him. Though there is some weakness in his narrations which come via Qatada, since in the last era of his life, he had some weakness in memory, and due to that, it is said that He has some hallucinations. However, otherwise, He is trusthwrothy. So Ibn Hajar wrote like this.

جرير ابن حازم ابن زيد ابن عبد الله الأزدي أبو النضر البصري والد وهب ثقة لكن في حديثه عن قتادة ضعف وله أوهام إذا حدث من حفظه وهو من السادسة مات سنة سبعين ۔
