In this particular article, we will see a few references for Verse of Mubahila [1] and its relevance to Ahlubait (asws)

REFERENCE 1

Imam Hakim wrote in his Mustdrak

Aamir bin Sa’ad narrated from his father that When the verse was revealed, Holy Prophet (asws) called Ali, Fatima, Hasan and Hussein (may peace be on them and their progeny) and said: They are my Ahlubait

{Hakim says} This narration is Sahih on terms of Sheikhain {Bukhari and Muslim} but they did not write it

Dhabi says in his talkhees: On terms of Bukhari and Muslim [2]

REFERENCE 2:

Imam Muslim wrote in his Sahih, a long narration in which Mawia asked Saad as to why He does not insult Imam Ali (asws), and he gave the reasons, a part of which says

And when the verse was revealed, Holy Prophet (asws) called Ali, Fatima, Hasan and Hussein (asws) and said: O Allah! they are my Ahlubait [3]

REFERENCE 3

Albany mentioned in his Sahih Tirmidhi, this very narration which we presented in Narration 2, and termed it Sahih. Tirmidhi himself termed it Hasan Sahih Ghareeb. [4]

REFERENCE 4

Sheikh Albany also mentioned in his Sahih Tirmidhi, from Saad bin Abi Waqas

When the verse was revealed, Holy Prophet (asws) called Ali, Fatima, Hasan and Hussein (asws), and said: O Allah! They are my family [5]

Albany counted it as Sahih. Tirmidhi counted it as Hasan Sahih Ghareeb.

REFERENCE 5

The narration of Tirmidhi was mentioned by Ibn Hajar in his Al-Isaaba, and he said regarding authenticity of it

And Tirmidhi mentioend with Qawi/strong Chain from Aamir bin Saad from his Father…………[6]

REFERENCE 6

Sheikh Ahmad Shakir writes in his authentic work, Umda tu Tafasir Min Tafsir ibn Kathir, that Jabir bin Abdullah said

Aaqib and Toyib came to Prophet (asws) and He (asws) called them for cursing. And in the morning, He came holding hands of Ali, Fatima, Hasan and Hussein (asws), and sent a man to call them, but they did not come, and accepted giving Money. So Prophet (asws) said:

By the one who send me with Truth! Had they rejected, this valley would have spread fire on them.

Jabir said: This verse was revealed for them. { أنفسنا وأنفسكم } means Prophet and Ali (asws), { وأبناءنا } means Hasan and Hussein (asws) and { ونساءنا } means Fatima (aswS) [7]

REFERENCE 7

The narration of Sahih Muslim, has also been mentioned by Ahmad bin Hanbal in his Musnad. [8]

Sheikh Shoaib said about its authenticity that sanad is strong/qawi on terms of Imam Muslim, all narrators are narrators of Sheikhain except for Bakeer, who is narrator of Muslim only, and he is sudooq/truthful. [9]

Sheikh Ahmad Shakir also termed it Sahih chain [10]

REFERENCE 8

Ajari in his Al-Shariya writes

Allah ordered his Prophet (asws) for Mubahila with People of Book. When He called them for it, Allah revealed the verse. So for Our sons and Your sons: Imam Hasan and Hussein (asws); and our ladies and your ladies: Bib Fatima (asws). And ourselves and yourselves: Ali bin Abi Talib (asws) [11]

REFERENCE 9

Aloosi mentioned in his Tafsir

Muslim, Tirmidhi and others mentioned from Saad bin Abi Waqas…………..And this is what has been mentioned that Holy Prophet (asws) called these 4 people, and this is what is famous and acted upon in view of Scholars of Hadeeth.

and Ibn Asaakar narrated from Jafar bin Mohammad [12] from his Father that when this verse was revealed, Holy Prophet (asws) took along Abu Bakar and his sons, Umar and his sons, Uthman and his sons, Imam Ali (asws) and his sons.

And this is against what has been narrated by Jamhoor [13]

REFERENCE 10

This would be the last of our references. And it is from the pen of Chief of Nawasib, Ibn Taymiyyah. He said

And the reply to what He said that He (asws) took Ali, Fatima, Hasan and Hussein (asws) in Mubahila, This narration is Sahih and has been narrated by Muslim in his Sahih [14]
