In this short piece of article, We will see a few authentic Sunni narrations which prove that Imam Ali (asws) did argue with Hadeeth-e-Ghadeer, and made Sahaba/Companions of Prophet (asws) testify on its authenticity

.

We see these narrations mentioned by Haithmi in his Majma-uz-Zawaid,. I will mention it by Narrators.

.

1- Ziyad bin Abi Ziyad

.

 .

Ziad bin Abi Ziad said that I heard Imam Ali asking people’s testimony, and He said: I adjure you for sake of Allah those Muslim Men who heard Prophet (asws) say on day of Ghadeer what I said. So 12 Sahaba who participated in battle of Badr, testified.

Narrated by Ahmad and all narrators are thiqa

.

[9/106-107]

.

2- Saeed bin Wahab

.

 .

Saeed bin Wahab narrates that Imam Ali asws asked people to testify so 5 or 6 from companions of Prophet asws testified that Prophet said that whosoever I am Maula of, Ali is his Maula

narrated by Ahmad, and narrators are narrators of Sahih/authentic narration

. [9/104]

This narration has also been authenticated by al Muqaddasi in his Al Ahadeeth ul Mukhtara, 2/105, narration 479. And researcher of the book, Abdul mulk Dahesh termed the chain Sahih

.

3- Abi Tufail

.

 .

Abu Tufayl narrated that Imam Ali gathered the people in the Rahbah and adjured in the name of Allah every Muslim male present there who had heard the day of Ghadir from the Prophet asws to stand up and testify what they had heard from the Holy Prophet asws on the Day of Ghadir. Thereupon thirty (30) men stood up and gave evidence that the Prophet grasped Ali’s hand and said to the audience: Don’t you know that I have more authority upon you than yourself?” People cried and said: “Yes, O Prophet of Allah.” and said: “WHOEVER I AM HIS MASTER, ALI IS HIS MASTER. O God! Love those who love him. Be hostile to those who are hostile to him.” Abu Tufayl says that it was in a state of great mental agitation that he left the plain of Rahbah. He therefore called on Zaid Ibn Arqam and told him what he heard from Ali. Zaid told him not to entertain any doubt about it for he himself had heard the Messenger of Allah uttering those words.

Narrated by Ahmad and narrators are that of Sahih except Fatr bin Khalifa, and He is Thiqa

.[9/104]

.

4- Zaid bin Yathba’a, Saeed bin Wahab & Amro bin Dhimar

.

 .

Amro bin Dhimar, Saeed bin Wahab and Zaid bin Yathba’a said that We heard Imam Ali asws saying that I adjure for sake of Allah those Men who heard Holy Prophet asws say on day of Ghadeer, so 13 Men stood up and testified that Prophet asws had said: “O People! Do I not have more right over the believers than what they have over themselves?” People said “Yes, O Messenger of Allah.” Then Prophet said: “WHOEVER I AM HIS MASTER, ALI IS HIS MASTER. O God! Love those who love him. Be hostile to those who are hostile to him. Love him who who loves Him. And Have grudge for him who has grudge for Him. Help him who helps Him and insult him who insults him

 .

Narrated by Bazaar and narrators are narrators of authentic narration except Fatr bin Khalifa, and He is Thiqa

[9/105]

.

Similarly Haithmi mentioned

.

 .

Saeed bin Wahab narrates from Zaid who said that Imam Ali asws asked people in Rahbah who heard from Prophet asws saying on day of Ghadeer, they should stand up. So from Saeed’s side, 6 people stood up, and from Zaid’s side 7 stood up, and testified that They heard it from Prophet on day of Ghadeer for Ali that have I greater right on believers? People said Yes. He said o Allah! WHOEVER I AM HIS MASTER, ALI IS HIS MASTER. O God! Love those who love him. Be hostile to those who are hostile to him.

Abdullah and Bazaar narrated it similarly, who completed it, and said that It was narrated by Saeed bin Wahab, and not FROM Zaid like has been mentioned above. And what Abdullah said Saeed from Zaid; apparently AND has been skipped here. And Chains are Hasan/good

[9/107]

.

This narration has been mentioned by Muqaddasi in al Ahadeeth ul Mukhtara, 2/105-106, narration 480. And researcher of the book, Abdul Mulk Dahesh termed the Chain Hasan

.

Also, it has been mentioned by Ahmad bin Hanbal in his Musnad; and Sheikh Ahmad Shakir termed it Sahih Sanad (2/18); and Sheikh Shoaib ul Arnawut termed it “Sahih with support of Others” in his research (2/262)

.

Albany also termed it Hasan in his Silsila Ahadeeth Sahihiyya, 4/338
