Many a times, a narration is mentioned from Nahj-ul-Balagh, letter no. 6; and it says

‘

Verily, those who swore allegiance to Abu Bakr, `Umar and `Uthman have sworn allegiance to me on the same basis on which they swore allegiance to them. (On this basis) he who was present has no choice (to consider), and he who was absent has no right to reject; and consultation is confined to the muhajirun and the ansar. If they agree on an individual and take him to be Caliph it will be deemed to mean Allah’s pleasure

As per Masadir Nahj-ul-Balagh wa Asaneedhu, 3/209; This narration is basically present in

  1. Nasr ibn Mazahim’s book, (Waqia-tu-)Siffen, p. 29
  2. Ibn Qutaiba’s book, Al Imamat wa Siasat, 1/93
  3. Ibn Abd Rabh’s book, al Uqd ul Fareed, 4/322

Out of these, Nasr ibn Mazahim’s work is Shiite in origin, and the Narration is present with this chain on p. 28

As regards to the first Narrator, Amir bin Sharajeel al Sho’bi, Agha Jawahiri writes in al-Mufid min Maujam Rijal ul Hadeeth

Amir bin Sharajeel, He is a Sunni Faqih, famous with the name Sho’bi. Khabees/Spiteful; Sinner; Liar, known for enemity to Amir-ul-Momineen

As regards to Namer bin Wa’la and Umar bin Sa’ad, Sheikh Hasan al-A’jmi writes

And in chain is Namer bin Wa’la, and he is Majhool/unknown as has been expressed by Razi in al-Jarh wa al-Ta’deel and Dhabi in Mizan-ul-A’tadal. And in chain is Umar bin Saad al Asadi, And He is not know specifically, so He is Majhool

.

Sheikh al-A’jmi has also mentioned Tareekh Damishq as a source for this Narration, however, it is a book of Ahlu Sunnah.

.

As a result, Chain for this Narration in Shiite source is Weak. If someone can find an authentic chain, only then can this Narration be used for the sake of argument with Shias.
