Let us see a narration from Musnad Ahmad, it comes with Two Chains

 حدثنا عبد الله ، حدثني نصر بن علي ، وعبيد الله بن عمر ، قالا : حدثنا عبد الله بن داود ، عن نعيم بن حكيم ، عن أبي مريم ، عن علي رضي الله عنه ، أن امرأة الوليد بن عقبة أتت النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم ، فقالت : يا رسول الله ، إن الوليد يضربها ، وقال نصر بن علي في حديثه : تشكوه ، قال : ” قولي له : قد أجارني ” ، قال علي : فلم تلبث إلا يسيرا حتى رجعت ، فقالت : ما زادني إلا ضربا ، فأخذ هدبة من ثوبه ، فدفعها إليها ، وقال : ” قولي له : إن رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم قد أجارني ” ، فلم تلبث إلا يسيرا حتى رجعت ، فقالت : ما زادني إلا ضربا ، فرفع يديه ، وقال : ” اللهم عليك الوليد ، أثم بي مرتين ” ، وهذا لفظ حديث القواريري ، ومعناهما واحد ، حدثنا عبد الله ، حدثني أبو بكر بن أبي شيبة ، وأبو خيثمة ، قالا : حدثنا عبيد الله بن موسى ، أخبرنا نعيم بن حكيم ، عن أبي مريم ، عن علي ، أن امرأة الوليد بن عقبة جاءت إلى رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم تشتكي الوليد أنه يضربها . . . ، فذكر الحديث .

Wife of Walid bin Uqban came to Holy Prophet (asws) and told Him that Walid hits her. Holy Prophet told her to go and tell him that Holy Prophet has given me protection. She came back after some time and told Him that He has started hitting Her even more. So Holy Prophet gave her a piece of cloth and told her to tell him that He had given her protection. She came back after some time and told Him that he now hits even more. So Holy Prophet raised His hands and prayed: o Allah! Walid has disobeyed me twice, be on him. 

Sheikh Ahmad Shakir has authenticated both the chains as Saheeh in His research upon Musnad Ahmad, 2/138-139, Narration 1303-1304

al-Moqaddasi mentioned This Narration in his al-Ahadeeth-ul-Mukhtara, 2/332, narration 710. And researcher of the book, Dr Abdul Mulk Daheesh termed the Chain Hasan

He also mentioned that al-Haithmi had said in Majma-uz-Zawaid, 4/332, that all Narrators are trustworthy

This Narration is also present in Musnad Abu Ya’la, 1/253, Narration 294; and researcher of the book, Hussein Saleem Asad termed the chain Hasan

So we see multiple scholars authenticating the Chain

Another researcher of Musnad Ahmad, Sheikh Shoaib al-Arnawut, grades this narration in the following manner in His research upon Musnad Ahmad, 2/431-432

إسناده ضعيف كسابقه

Chain is weak like before

And when we look at narration 1302, where he pointed out the weakness for first time, He said

إسناده ضعيف لجهالة أبي مريم الثقفي، وضعف نعيم بن حكيم

Chain is weak as Abu Maryam is Majhool, and Naeem bin Hakeem is Weak

But interestingly, When we look into Tehreer Taqreeb-ut-Tehzeeb, which has been authored by Sheikh Shoaib and Bashar Awad Ma’roof, We see that in vol 4, page 21, opinion of Ibn Hajar is mentioned by Naeem bin Hakeem who said that Naeem is truthful but hallucinates/errs. But they contradict his opinion, and say that

He is truthful/Sudooq and Good in Hadeeth/Hasan-ul-Hadeeth

Strange!!!!

Isnt it?

And when we check their opinion about Abu Maryam, We find that they write on 4/270 that

Abu Maryam Thaqafi is Trustworthy/Thiqa and has been authenticated by Nisai and Ibn Hibban

So actually, This Narration is authentic if you keep these opinions in mind.
