There is a concept prevalent in AhluSunnah that when a Chain of Narrtion reaches a Companion/Sahabi, they do not investigate it further as they consider all Sahaba to be JUST. Let us turn our attention to a Narration mentioned by Ibn Shubbah in His Tareekh Madina, 4/1156. We will just mention the relevant part of it. It mentions a Sahabi, named Ibn Udais.

So Ibn Udais went on the Pulpit of Holy Prophet (asws), and spoke to people, and offered Friday prayers to People of Madina. And in His sermon, He said: Beware that Ibn Ma’sood narrated to me what He heard from Prophet who had said: Uthman is like this and this. (Narrator says) and He spoke such sentences which I hate to mention.

Now the narrators walk upto Uthman, and asks Him. He replies

By God! Ibn Udais has lied. He did not hear from Ibn Ma’sood, and Ibn Ma’sood did not hear from Holy Prophet

Chain of This Narration is like this

.

One objection to this can be, that Ibn Lahiya erred and was a Mudalis. However, it has been agreed by AhluSunnah scholars of past and present, that If the one narrating from Ibn Lahiya is in Ibadila, which inclues Abdullah bin Wahab, then the chain is Saheeh/Authentic

In Scholars of Past, this was opinion of Abdul Saeed bin Ghani and Saji

Ibn Hajar mentions

.
Abdul Ghani bin Saeed says that when Ibadila narrate from Ibn Lahiya, then it is Saheeh: and they are (Abdullah) Ibn Mubarik, Ibn Wahab, Muqri. Saji also said like this
.

In Scholars of present era, it was mentioned by Sheikh Albany in Silsila Ahadeeth Saheehiyya, 1/152; and Sheikh Shoaib al-Arnawut and Bashar Awad in Tehreer Taqreeb-ut-Tehzeeb, 2/258.

As regards to Charge of Tadlees, it was mentioned by Ibn Hibban. And Scholars did not pay it much attention, as it can be seen in opinion of Ibn Hajar in Taqreeb-ut-Tehzeeb, and research of Sheikh Shoaib and Bashar Awad in Tehreer Taqreeb-ut-Tehzeeb.

Secondly, This narration is mentioned by Ibn Hajar in al-Matalib-ul-A’lia, 11/191

.

Another issue can be mentioned in Narration mentioned earlier in regards to Narrator, Abu Thor Tameemi. But this is writing mistake, as original name is Abu Thor Fahmi, as is evident from chain mentioned by Ibn Hajr, and I have highlighted it in red color. Keep in mind that he is a Companion too as mentioned by Abu Hatim and Abu Zar’a.

As regards to Abdur Rehman bin Udais al-Balwi, His Companionship is proven as is mentioned by Abu Hatim, Ibn Hibban, Ibn Saad, Ibn Abdul Bar, Dhabi, Ibn Hajar etc

Ibn Saad said that He is a Sahabi who heard from Him (asws). And he was included in Those who came to Uthman, and he was surrounded, and then killed. He was in their leaders (of those who had come). His wordings are

For reference, See Tabaqat ibn Saad, 7/509

Now, the point is, He clearly said that He heard from Ibn Masood. And ibn Masood heard from Holy Prophet. But Uthman rejected it.

Where was the concept of Justice of Sahaba????

This article is deduced from work of brother Nasir Hussein. May Allah grant Him Success in this world, and world hereafter. Amin
