A Narration comes in Fadail-us-Sahaba of Saheeh Bukhari and Muslim, in which one of the ten Companions who were told to go to Heaven, Saad bin Abi Waqas, said

I did not hear from Holy Prophet (asws) telling anyone walking on Earth that He is among paradise people except Abdullah bin Salam

One may object that He said “I did not hear“, and not that “He (asws) did not say“.

But  Question would arise that how is it possible that No one ever told him that “Sir! You are one of those 10 who are promised Heaven“.

Keeping the Narration of Bukhari and Muslim in view, Let us pay attention to the Chains which tell us about the Narration in which 10 People were given the news of Heaven.

We will translate the work of Brother Nasir Hussein, and His work can be read in Arabic on This LINK

1st CHAIN

Imam Ahmad mentions This chain in Musnad Imam Ahmad, which has been authenticated by Sheikh Shoaib al-Arnawut

.

.

Interesting point in this Narration is, that only 9 companions have been counted, and not 10. Coming to the Chain, We find a Narrator named Riyah bin Harith. Only two people have called Him Trustworthy, Ibn Hibban and Ijli. I will quote Arabic text of Ibn Hajr’s opinion in Tehzeeb-ut-Tehzeeb, and color important points in Red

As can be seen, He was from Kufa, and only Ibn Hibban and Ijli authenticated Him. Ijli even said He is from Kufa.

Now

If you consult Ibn Hajr’s book, Taqreeb-ut-Tehzeeb, You will find many examples where these two Scholars have authenticated a Narrator as Trustworthy, and Ibn Hajr calls them Maqbool. This is because these Two are considered Lenient by Many Scholars. Yes! there are a few examples where these Two Scholars have authenticated a Narrator, and even Ibn Hajr called that Narrator Thiqa/Trustworthy. For example Yaseer bin Umaila.

.

But interestingly, when we consult Tehreer Taqreeb-ut-Tehzeeb, a book by Sheikh Shoaib Arnawut and Bashar Awad Ma’roof in which they gave worked on opinions of Ibn Hajr, they rejected this opinion of Ibn Hajr, and said:-

Rather: He is Maqbool/accepted only if He has following or supporting evidence. Only two narrated from Him. Ijli termed him Trustworthy and He is famous in leniency for authenticating Narrators from Kufa; and Ibn Hibban mentioned him in al-Thiqaat

Let me remind You that Riyah bin Harith is from Kufa, and only these two have authenticated him. So How is This Chain Saheeh????

2nd CHAIN

Abu Daood mentions This Chain

.

In this chain, We find Abdur Rehman bin Akhnas, and Dhabi said that He is not Known in His book, al-Mughni fi al-Du’afa, 2/375

Also, Sheikh Shoaib said he is Majhool/unknown in Tehreer Taqreeb-ut-Tehzeeb, 2/305.

Keep in mind that this narration also counts only 9 Sahaba, and starts with Holy Prophet (asws)

3rd CHAIN

Tirmidhi mentions This Chain

Now, there is a Narrator named Abdul Aziz bin Mohammad al-Darawardi. He has been praised by some, and criticized by others. Rule is, if criticism is explained, and the reason is given, then it is paid more importance then Praise. you would often hear the term “Jarh-e-Mufassir” (Explained criticism), which is given priority over Tautheeq(Praise).

Imam Ahmad bin Hanbal says about him

When he is narrating from his memory, he errs, and that is nothing. But if he is narrating from His book, then accepted.

Also,

Imam Ahmad also said: when He is narrating from his memory, rejected things come from him

Please see (موسوعة أقوال الإمام أحمد بن حنبل في رجال الحديث وعللهم ) Mausaat Aqwaal fi Rijal-ul-Hadeeth wa I’llalahom, 2/369

Also, Abu Zar’a said

He had weak memory, and when He narrated from His memory, He erred.

Now

How will this be proven that He was narrating from His book, and not memory????

Because We see that there is name of Abu Ubaida now, and name of Holy Prophet (asws) is not present in This narration. Plus, in another chain mentioned by Tirmidhi, we find

Here, we see a Trustworthy Narrator, Abu Mus’ab narrating from Him, and He mentions the chain without naming Abdur Rehman bin Auf, as has been mentioned by Tirmidhi.

Also, al-A’lai writes in his book, ( جامع التحصیل فی احکام مراسیل) Jami’i al-Tehseel fi Ahkam Maraseel, p.228

.

Abdul Aziz bin Mohammad narrated from Abdul Mulk bin Juraij > Ata > Ibn Abbas……..Qutaiba bin Sa’eed said that al-Darawardi did not hear this Narration from Ibn Juraij

This means that he had skipped the Name of Narrator between Him and Ibn Juraij, and this is Tadlees. And rule for Mudallis Narrator is, You have to give clear proof of “Hearing” so that Chain can be considered Authentic

4th CHAIN

Tirmidhi mentions another Chain

In this chain, We find Musa bin Ya’qoob al-Zamai, who has been weakened by Sheikh Shoaib in Tehreer Taqreeb-ut-Tehzeeb, 3/441. Also, we see Umar bin Sa’eed who has been called Lenient by Dhabi, Weak/Daeef by Darqutni, and Muztarib-ul-Hadeeth by Abu Hatim

5th CHAIN

Tabarani mentions in al-Maujam-al-Ausat

Narrator named Thabit bin Walid bin Abdullah has been included by Ibn Addi in his al-Kamil al-Du’afa, 2/298

6th CHAIN

Tabarani also mentions in same book

Abdullah bin Waheeb is uknown/Majhool, Ata bin Muslim has been weakened as Daeef in Tehreer Taqreeb-ut-Tehzeeb by Sheikh Shoaib and Bashar. Mohammad bin Abi Sirri has been criticized by some, though some have praised him.

7th CHAIN

Humaidi mentions

Abdullah ibn Zalim has been included in al-Duafa al-Kabeer,2.267 by al-Aqeeli. Also, we see that Sufian ibn Ainiya is taking this Narration from Haseen bin Abdur Rehman. Abu Hatim Razi mentioned that His memory deteriorated in last age. And it is proven that Sufian al-Thori heard from Him when His memory was fine, but what about ibn Ainiyya??? That needs a proof.

8th CHAIN

Tamam bin Mohammad Razi mentions this chain in His Fawaid

Abu Walid and Mohammad bin Mohammad bin Aun are Majhool/Uknown in this chain. Where as Abdullah bin Yazid has been termed Weak/Daeef in Hadeeth by Abu Hatim Razi (al-Jarh wa al-Ta’deel, 5/201)

9th CHAIN

Abu Naeem mentions in Ma’rifat-us-Sahaba

I’bad bin Suhaib is rejected, and he was charged with fabrication of Narrations.

Saeed bin Abi A’roob got deterioration in his memory in last age, and He is a Mudalis.

Qatada bin Da’aba is also Mudalis.

also, Ismaeel Qadi mentions in Ahkam-ul-Quraan that Ali bin Madaini weakened narrations of Qatada bin Saeed from Saeed bin Museb.

10th CHAIN

Ibn Asaakar mentions this chain in His Tareekh

Ham bin Nooh is Majhool/unknown in this chain, where as Salam bin Salim has been called a Liar by Abu Zar’a and Ibn Mubarik. Darqutni included him in al-Dua’fa wa al-Matrooken.

11th CHAIN

Rafa’i mentions in his book, al-Tadween fi Akhbar-e-Qazween

Umar bin Haroon seems a mistake here. Probably He is A’mar bin Haroon who was charged by ibn Addi for stealing Narrations. A’di bin Fadal is rejected as has been mentioned by Ibn Hajr and Dhabi.

12th CHAIN

Bazaar mentions this chain

Hamza bin Aun is Majhool in this chain. Mohammad bin Qasim has been weakened by Imam Ahmad, and His Narrations have been called “Fabricated”. Nisai termed him Rejected. Others criticized him too.

13th CHAIN

Tabarani mentions in his Maujam-ul-Kabeer

Ibn Hajar counted Habeeb bin Abi Thabit in 3rd category of Mudalis narrators. And their narrations are accepted only if they clarify that they heard it. Also, Brother Nasir Hussein has explained that Sufian bin Ainiyya does tadlees from weak narrators. His work can be read HERE. I have translated some part of it, which conveys the message, and that can be read HERE.

CONCLUSION

All the chains mentioned above have issues. Can any Nasibi bring a chain which has no issue at all???
