Allama Jalal-ud-Deen Sayooti is considered among Great Scholars of AhluSunnah. Many of His books have got a lot of fame like Tafsir Dur-e-Manthur, al-Itqaan fi U’loom-ul-Quran etc. I will quote from His book, al-Hawi lil Fatawa ( الحاوی للفتاوی ), and Worthy Reader is free to deduce His own conclusion. We consult Vol 2, Page 317 onwards:-

And Qadi Abu Bakr ibn A’rbi said: Watching Holy Prophet in dreams in characteristics which are known for him, means getting Him truly. And watching him in unknown characteristics means getting him as an example. And this is stated in good sense. And there is no prohibition to see Him (asws) with His Body and Spirit. And that is because He and rest all Prophets (peace be on Them all) are alive, and their spirits are returned to them after these spirits are taken from Him. And they are given permission to come out of Their graves, and act/have authority in Above and underground Worlds.

And Behqi mentions in “Part in Life of Prophets” and He said in Dalael-un-Nabuwat: Prophets are alive with Their Lord like Martyrs. And He said in Kitab-ul-A’itaqat (Book on Beliefs): After spirits are taken from Prophets, These are returned to them, and they are alive with their Lord like Martyrs

And Abu Mansoor Abdul Qahir bin Tahir al-Baghdadi said: Those researchers in our companions who are experts in Kalaam, They said that He (asws) is alive after death, and He is given good news of obedience in His Nation, and He gets sad when they sin. And When Salaam/prayers is recited upon him from His Nation, it reaches Him. And He said: Earth does not damage or eat anything (from their body). Moses (asws) died in His era, and Holy Prophet (asws) informed us that He saw Him in His grave and He was offering prayers. And It is mentioned in Narration of Mai’raj that He saw on 4th sky, and saw Adam and Ibrahim (asws). And when this is true for us, We say: Our Prophet is alive after His death, and He is on His Prophethood

And Qurtubi stated in al-Tadkira in Narration mentioned from His Teachers: Death is not mere absence, rather is it transition from one state to another. And proof for this is that Martyrs after they are killed, They are alive and getting sustenance, They are happy and getting good news. And these are the characteristics in This world. And when this is for Martyrs, Prophets are more deserving of it, and ahead of it. And it is authentic that Earth does not eat body of Prophets. And He saw gathering of Prophets on Night of ascend in Bait-ul-Maqdis, and in skies; and he saw Moses standing and offering prayers in His grave. And He informed us that He replies greeting of whom greets him. What we get from this all is, Death of Prophets is that They hide (get in ghaibat) in regards to fact that We can not get them. But they are present alive and their status is like that of Angels who are also present alive, but cannot be seen by anyone of our species except for those whom are given glory by AlMighty.

And Abu Ya’la mentioned in His Musnad, and Behqi in his book, Hayat-ul-Anbiya (Life of Prophets) from Ans that He (asws) stated: Prophets are alive in their graves and offering prayers. And Behqi mentioned from Ans from Prophet (asws): Prophets are not left in their graves after 40 nights, but they are praying in front of their Lord till Whistle is blown . And Sufian al-Thori mentioned in al-Jami’i: Our Sheikh told us from Sa’eed bin Musaib that: Prophets are not left in graves for more than 40 nights till they ascend

.

Abdur Razaq mentions in His Musanif, from Thori from Abu Miqdam from Sa’eed bin Musaib: He said: Prophets do not stay in Earth for more than 40 days. And Abu Miqdam is Thabit bin Harmaz Kufi, He is Sheikh and Pious.

And Ibn Hibban mentions in His History, and Tabarani in His al-Kabeer, and Abu Naeem in al-Huliyya from Ans from Prophet : He said that When Prophets die, they do not stay in Earth for more than 40 days. And Imam-ul-Harmain stated in al-Nihaya and then al-Rafai’i in al-Sharh: It is narrated from Prophet that My Lord gave me glory that I will not be left in Grave after three. And Imam-ul-Harmain increased that: it is narrated: More than Two

Sayooti gives His final verdict, and states

What We get from His statements is, that Holy Prophet (asws) is alive with His body and spirit. And He exerts authority and walks where ever He wants in Skies and Kingdoms. And He is in that state in which He was before Death. Nothing has changed in Him. He is hidden from our Eyes, like Angels are Hidden though they are alive with their bodies. When Allah wishes, He removes the veils for one whom He wants to glorify, so that He sees Him in State in which He was. There is no Prohibition in that. And there is no issue if He is seen as example
