Hazrat Abu dhar is one of the great Companions of Holy Prophet (asws). Let us see a Narration to know whether He went to Rabda on His own wish. Ibn Sa’ad mentions in His Tabaqat, 4/171-172

Abdullah bin Sedan says that Abu Dhar and Uthman were talking, and then there voices raised. Abu Dhar came smiling, and People asked: What was it between you and Amir-ul-Momineen? He replied: I hear and obey, and Had He ordered me to Go to San’a or A’dn, and I had the capability to do it, I would do it. And Uthman ordered Him to go to Rabda

Fadal ibn Dakeen al-Kufi is Trustworthy Narrator, and His Narrations have been included in Saheeh Bukhari and Muslim. Ja’far bin Burqan has been termed Truthful by Ibn Hajr, but His Narrations have been graded as Saheeh by Imam Muslim. Thabit ibn Hajaj has been counted as Trustworthy Narrator by Ibn Hajr.

Whosoever tried to weaken This Narration, He did that by saying that Abdullah bin Sedan is Unknown/Majhool. However, He has been counted as Trustworthy Narrator by I’jli (al-Thiqaat by I’jli, 2/320 and Ibn Hibban (al-Thiqaat by Ibn Hibban, 3/247). Some People can argue that they are Lenient in their grading. However, Famous Pakistani Salafi Scholar, Zubair Ali Zai stated this principle in His books, for example in Preface to His research on Urdu version of Sunan Abi Daood, page 62, that if two lenient Scholars of Rijal, like Tirmidhi, Hakim etc, term a Narrator Trustworthy, then He becomes Sudooq/Truthful and Hasan-ul-Hadeeth. Also, He mentioned that in His view, I’jli is not lenient, rather His grading is at par with likes of Ahmad bin Hanbal. Now, we see if I’jli is considered even lenient, then Abdullah bin Sedan becomes Sudooq and hasan-ul-Hadeeth, otherwise He is trustworthy.

There is another Narration mentioned in al-Matalib-ul-A’lia, 16/498, which also mentions the same

Uthman ordered Him to leave for Rabda.

Though I could not find Praise for one of the Narrators in Chain of al-Matalib (Abu Amr bin Hamas), but This is just to give another chain.

Let us see part of a narration from Musnad Ahmad, 35/300

Umm Dhar narrates that When time of Death of Abu Dhar came, She cried. He asked: Why are You crying? She said: Why should I not cry that You are dying, and We are in a barren land, and I have nothing for burying you, not even a cloth…..

Sheikh Shoaib al-Arnawut termed the Chain Hasan

People are told that Khilafat-e-Rashida was the best time of Muslims, and This is how a Sahabi is dying………..
