Many sunnis criticize the reward mentioned for Ziarat of Imam Hussein (asws). They object to those narrations which state that if this Ziarat is performed, one will get rewards of Haj or that his sins are forgiven etc. Some ignorant would even charge that Shias don’t perform Haj.

Please keep in mind that Haj is one of the obligatory acts. Allah states in Surah Aal-e-Imran

  1.          فِيهِ آيَاتٌ بَيِّنَاتٌ مَقَامُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ ۖ وَمَنْ دَخَلَهُ كَانَ آمِنًا ۗ وَلِلَّهِ عَلَى النَّاسِ حِجُّ الْبَيْتِ مَنِ اسْتَطَاعَ إِلَيْهِ سَبِيلًا ۚ وَمَنْ كَفَرَ فَإِنَّ اللَّهَ غَنِيٌّ عَنِ الْعَالَمِينَ

 In it are clear signs, the standing place of Ibrahim, and whoever enters it shall be secure, and pilgrimage to the House is incumbent upon men for the sake of Allah, (upon) everyone who is able to undertake the journey to it; and whoever disbelieves, then surely Allah is Self-sufficient, above any need of the worlds. History clarifies to us that He was the greatest protector of Holy Prophet asws. And what he did for Him, it was not done by any other. None could dare attack him in Mecca till the time he was alive.

We find a narration in al-Kafi, 1/449

1 3 – علي، عن أبيه، عن ابن أبي نصر، عن إبراهيم بن محمد الأشعري، عن عبيد بن زرارة، عن أبي عبد الله عليه السلام قال: لما توفى أبو طالب نزل جبرئيل على رسول الله صلى الله عليه وآله فقال: يا محمد اخرج من مكة، فليس لك فيها ناصر، وثارت قريش بالنبي صلى الله عليه وآله، فخرج هاربا حتى جاء إلى جبل بمكة يقال له الحجون فصار إليه.

Imam al-Sadiq says when Abu Talib died, Jibrail came to Prophet and said: O Mohammad! Go out of Mecca, You don’t have a helper here. Quraish came at him, and He went out to Mountain named al-Hajoon.

‘‘I heard Abū Ja‘far, peace be upon him, say: ‘There is no truth with the people, nor anything which is correct, nor anyone of the people who judges with truth, except [through] what has come from us, the Ahlul-Bayt. 3973 –[1] حدثنا سُوَيْدُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ، ثنا مُفَضَّلٌ، عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ، عَنْ حَنَشٍ قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ أَبَا ذَرٍّ رَضِيَ الله عَنْه وَهُوَ آخِذٌ بِحَلَقَةِ الْبَابِ وَهُوَ يَقُولُ: يَا أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ مَنْ عَرَفَنِي فَقَدْ عَرَفَنْي، وَمَنْ أَنْكَرَ أَنْكَرَ، أنا أَبُو ذَرٍّ سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ: ” إِنَّمَا مَثَلُ أَهْلِ بَيْتِي فِيكُمْ مَثَلُ سَفِينَةِ نُوحٍ مَنْ دَخَلَهَا نَجَا، وَمَنْ تَخَلَّفَ عَنْهَا هَلَكَ “. We find in Musnad Imam Ahmad

21578 – حَدَّثَنَا الْأَسْوَدُ بْنُ عَامِرٍ، حَدَّثَنَا شَرِيكٌ، عَنِ الرُّكَيْنِ، عَنِ الْقَاسِمِ بْنِ حَسَّانَ، عَنْ زَيْدِ بْنِ ثَابِتٍ، قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: “إِنِّي تَارِكٌ فِيكُمْ خَلِيفَتَيْنِ: كِتَابُ اللهِ، حَبْلٌ مَمْدُودٌ مَا بَيْنَ السَّمَاءِ وَالْأَرْضِ، أَوْ مَا بَيْنَ السَّمَاءِ إِلَى الْأَرْضِ، وَعِتْرَتِي أَهْلُ بَيْتِي، وَإِنَّهُمَا لَنْ يَتَفَرَّقَا حَتَّى يَرِدَا عَلَيَّ الْحَوْضَ 

Zaid bin Thabit narrates from Holy Prophet (asws): I am leaving behind Two Caliphs: Book of Allah, which is a rope connected to Sky and Earth, and My Progeny Ahlubait, and They will not separate till they meet Me at Pond

Sheikh al Sadooq mentions in his Ma’ani-ul-Akhbar, p. 365

(باب) * (معنى الناصب) * 1 – حدثنا محمد بن على ماجيلويه – رضى الله عنه – قال: حدثني عمى محمد بن أبي القاسم، عن محمد بن على الكوفي، عن ابن فضال عن المعلى بن خنيس، قال: سمعت أبا عبد الله عليه السلام يقول: ليس الناصب من نصب لنا أهل البيت لانك لاتجد أحدا يقول: أنا ابغض محمدا وآل محمد، ولكن الناصب من نصب لكم وهو يعلم أنكم تتولونا أو تتبرؤون من أعدائنا، وقال عليه السلام: من أشبع عدوا لنا فقد قتل وليا لنا.

Khateeb Baghdaadi writes in his Tareekh, from Abu Ali Khalal, who said that

Whenever I faced any problem, I made the intention to pay visit to (ziarat) Grave of Imam Musa ibn Jafar (asws), and I made Tawassul to God via him, and whatever I desired, it was made easy for me by Allah
